Check whether the smell is really coming from the coat
A coat that simply went too long between washes usually smells broadly dusty, oily, or outdoor-dirty. If the smell stays concentrated around one area, you are probably dealing with something more specific than a missed bath schedule.
Lift the ears, check the beard and lips, feel the folds, and smell the bedding side of the rear coat. That quick scan often tells you where the real problem is.
- Whole-body odor often points to coat buildup or incomplete rinsing.
- A sharp localized smell usually points to a source area the bath did not solve.
- Do the sniff test before reaching for stronger products.
